PSOJ not pulling out of Social Partnership Agreement

PSOJ President Chris Zacca
The Private Sector Organisation of  Jamaica, PSOJ, has stated that despite the controversy surrounding the National Housing Trust, NHT, Board it will not withdraw from the Social Partnership agreement.

Some civil society groups are threatening to pull out of  the Partnership to protest Cabinet's decision to retain the Easton Douglas-led Board. The Partnership involves the Government, private sector, trade unions, and civil society.

PSOJ President, Christopher Zacca, speaking on RJR's Beyond the Headlines, on Wednesday, said the private sector will use its internal mechanisms to deal with the NHT controversy.

He said his group will use the Partnership mechanism to address its "grievance" adding that he was optimistic that this approach will be effective.

"We think it will, so we are not at the stage where we would say we would come off the Partnership... I think that woul be a big, big step; and partnership... is critical to the success of Jamaica," he stressed.

And amid howls of  protest from various quarters and calls for its sacking, the NHT Board will hold its first meeting since four new Directors were appointed earlier this week. RJR News has been informed that the Board will meet next TuesdayOn Monday it was announced that four new members of  the NHT Board had been appointed with other Directors to be selected in due course. The NHT Board will expire on April 2 next year.
