PSOJ supports call for flexi-work hours

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is in support of a suggestion by the Human Resource Management Association of Jamaica (HRMAJ) for staggered hours or flexi-work arrangements to address the issue of employee arriving to work late because of traffic congestion in the Corporate Area.

The Association on Wednesday said based on a survey of its members and managers more employees are reporting for work late since traffic changes were implemented in the Corporate Area last week.

In an interview with RJR News Thursday morning, PSOJ President Howard Mitchell described the suggestion as an innovative solution, so long as employers are able to do it without damaging their process flows and productivity much more than employees coming late.

He pointed out, however, that employees will also have to be mindful of the security situation if some staff are to work later hours.

Out of the 113 people surveyed, 93 per cent of the respondents indicated an increase in employee lateness attributed to the traffic congestion.

Karl Williams, President of the Human Resource Management Association of Jamaica, said a flexi-work arrangement may also help bridge the gap with persons who have to travel long distances to get to work.
