The president of the Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA), Gregory Chung, has highlighted indiscipline as a major contributor to the problems faced by his members.
One of the main manifestations of this indiscipline is in relation to gas stations being overrun by taxis and buses using the property as a pick-up and drop-off point, according to Mr Chung.
More generally, he says motorists are resistant to the strict observance of prescribed safety standards.
The JGRA President, speaking Monday on Beyond the Headlines, noted that some members of the public also converge freely at gas stations despite the safety issues which arise.
He explained that this situation presents a major safety hazard for gas stations and that it occurs frequently.
