Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett says discussions are taking place for the re-introduction of rail service between Montego Bay in St James and Appleton in St Elizabeth to facilitate the movement of visitors to the southern parish
Speaking with RJR News following the re-opening of the re-branded Joy Spence Appleton Estates Experience tour facility on Thursday, Bartlett said rail service is essential to Appleton Estates realizing its goal of 250,000 visitors annually.
He said based on discussions, it is projected that rail service from Montego Bay to Appleton should be up and running by 2020.
Bartlett said the redevelopment of the rail service is important to the country's transportation system with regards to commercial activities and leisure.
With the leisure component of the rail service being the easier of the two, he also said discussions are taking place for a private/public approach for its development.
