Rebel Salute 2017 launched

The 2017 staging of Rebel Salute was launched earlier this week at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

The two day festival comes alive on January 13-14 at Plantation Cove in St. Ann.

This will be the 24th staging of the production, spearheaded by Reggae singer Tony Rebel.

Among those in attendance at the launch were Queen Ifrica and Chevaughn with greetings coming from Culture and Entertainment Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange.

The minister used the opportunity to address the amount of money Jamaica is paying for royalties to overseas artistes.

Minster Grange urged the island's radio stations to play more Jamaican music, to cut down on the $37 million the Jamaica Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (JACAP) pays for overseas royalties, compared to the $7 million that is paid locally.
