Robinson calls for removal of Spectrum agency chairman Trevor Forrest

Julian Robinson, Opposition Spokesman on Technology, has called for the removal of Trevor Forrest, Chairman of the Spectrum Management Authority (SMA), in the wake of his attempt to influence the entity to hire Carolyn Warren, prior to her appointment as Managing Director of National Energy Solutions (NESOL).

Mr. Robinson argued that Mr. Forrest's actions amount to misconduct and warrant his removal from NESOL as well as his positions on the boards of the Universal Service Fund (USF) and e-Learning Jamaica.

"Someone who clearly demonstrates no regard for the policies, the systems that are put in place to protect the agencies, should not remain in any of these positions," said Mr. Robinson, who added that it is actions such as these which have contributed to the breakdown of systems in the Energy Ministry.

The opposition spokesman also pointed out that even while Mr. Forrest is a senior advisor to Science and Technology Minister Dr. Andrew Wheatley, similar issues of cronyism have been spotted in agencies under those portfolios.

In the meantime, Carolyn Warren, has responded to the issue at Spectrum Management Authority. She called the situation hypocritical, arguing that "everybody in Jamaica who is looking a job, asks somebody to ask somebody."

However, she acknowledged that the specific concern was not that the board chairman wanted her application to be added to the shortlist, but that the application itself was late.
