Scotia Bank to cut almost 100 jobs

Kavan Gayle, President General of the BITU

The Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS), Jamaica's second largest commercial bank, is to cut almost 100 jobs.

This was confirmed on Monday evening by the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU). It said the jobs are being transferred from Jamaica to Trinidad and Tobago.

Kavan Gayle, President General of the BITU, accused Scotia Bank of "lifting the jobs from Jamaica where these jobs have been performing efficiently in supporting the bank's objective over many years."

He told RJR News that the BNS has not indicated when the redundancies will take effect.
