Second Zone of Special Operation imposed in Denham Town, West Kingston

The Andrew Holness led administration says it hopes the Zone of Special Operations imposed in Denham Town, West Kingston yesterday will quell the ongoing gang violence in the area.

Gunmen in Denham Town and neighbouring Tivoli Gardens have been engaged in a deadly feud over the past two years. Several persons have been killed and others injured, including women and children over the period.

Police Commissioner George Quallo disclosed yesterday that the violence escalated in April following the shooting of Leighton "Livity" Coke, brother of convicted kingpin, Christopher Coke.

Speaking on RJR's Beyond the Headlines last evening, National Security Advisor, Major General Antony Anderson says the Zone of Special Operations is expected to bring calm to the area.

He pointed to the success of the first Zone in Mount Salem, St James which has been embraced by the residents who have welcomed the lull in shootings in the area. He said he expects a positive result in Denham Town. Several men were detained in the Zone yesterday, but they were later released after being processed.
