Security minister details anti-crime plan for St. James

Dr. Horace Chang
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has shared details of the Government's plan to maintain order in St. James after the state of emergency ends next week Thursday.
Dr. Chang reiterated that while the powers of the security forces will not be as extensive, the police and military will maintain a strong presence.
He said part of the plan includes a permanent post for the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) at Sangster International Airport. These soldiers, he said, will be able to assist the police in operations in the western end of the island.
A new police base will also be built in Montego Hills.
He said, having had the State of the Emergency for a year, it is evident that residents have become more willing to give information to the police.
In the meantime, Dr. Chang said St. James has seen a reduction in murders so far this year when compared to the same period in 2018.
There have been three murders since the start of the year, compared to 11 murders in the same period last year.
He was speaking at a community meeting in Norwood, St. James on Sunday.
