Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey
Assistant Commissioner Fitz Bailey, head of Area Two Police, has called for members of society to be balanced in their critique of the Police Force as he believes it is foolhardy to think that the organisation can be purged of bad cops when its members are a microcosm of the society.
ACP Bailey stressed that three to six months of training will not transform individuals cultured to think and behave in a particular way.
He expressed disappointment at the widespread negative condemnation of the Force from members of the public whenever officers are arrested for alleged participation in criminal activities.
There are still good officers in the JCF, he argued, and while persons do have the freedom to express themselves, they should exercise this freedom responsibly.
"If we continue to bash the institution that is called to serve, protect and reassure - just like a little child, if you keep on telling your child that the child is worthless, one day that child might believe and accept what is being said," the senior cop contended.
"When we do wrong, we have no problem for those wrongs to be highlighted, but what we are asking for as a force, as an organisation, (is) some level of balance and fairness," he pleaded.
ACP Bailey was speaking at an Area Two media briefing on Tuesday night.
