Several roads in the Corporate Area are now flooded following heavy rains.
Assistant Commissioner Calvin Allen, head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), says Waltham Park Road is among the affected thoroughfares.
ACP Allen said in some instances there is reduced traffic flow.
Members of the PSTEB have been deployed to several intersections to ease the congestion.
ACP Allen said there is "some amount of water" along the Chesterfield Road, while Waltham Park Road is "heavily flooded". He advised motorists to be "extremely careful in that area or avoid it totally."
ACP Allen said the traffic snarl has been compounded by disabled vehicles, especially in the Waltham Park area.
More rain expected
More rain is in the forecast for Jamaica this weekend.
Duty forecaster at the Meteorological Service Peter Fearon said the rains are being be caused by a Trough.
"We do expect that the unstable conditions will continue into the weekend with light to moderate showers, which could be heavy at times across most parishes.
No flash flood warning has been released, however, the Meteorological Service said it will continue to monitor the situation.
In the meantime, Stephen Shaw, Communication Manager at the National Works Agency (NWA), has said a landslide has reduced the Lime Gate main road in Westmoreland to single lane traffic.
