Significant damage from rains in St. Mary

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of  Transport and Works, Dr. Morais Guy toured sections of the eastern parish of St Mary  on Wednesday.

He visited the communities of  Frontier, Little Bay, Castle Gardens, Tryall and Free Hill which have all  been impacted by heavy rain.

Guy was accompanied by the Mayor, representatives from the Parish Disaster Committee and a team from the National Works Agency. He said there has been a significant amount of damage.

He added that based on his assessment the cost of  the repairs will increase significantly from previous estimates.

Meanwhile, in the neighbouring parish of St. Ann, the Ocho Rios Health Centre remains closed for a second day as flood waters have engulfed the compound.

 As a result, residents of  the informal settlement of  Parry Town outside of Ocho Rios are being affected by flooding.

 The Beecher Town main road leading to Ocho Rios is also inundated.
