Political Commentator, Shalman Scott has suggested that some members of the People's National Party (PNP) are fearful that former Mayor of Lucea, Shernette Haughton will act on a threat she made in the wake of an investigation by the Office of the Contractor General (OCG).
The OCG stated that Haughton awarded contracts to family members and friends during her tenure as Mayor. She also publicly stated that other members of the Hanover Parish Council would have to resign if she released information in her possession.
On Sunday, some senior members of the PNP's National Executive Council, NEC insisted that natural justice be followed in deciding on her future in the party.
Scott argues that while the issue is a legal one, it is also about politics - based on Haughton's pronouncements.
“If the statement that was attributed to the (former) Mayor, if it is true, it means she has secrets for people which can result in them (being) politically victimized, based on what she knows and has not yet said,” Scott declared.
On Thursday, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn, ruled that she would not bring any charges against the former Mayor following the OCG's report
