Transport operators are reportedly protesting in St Catherine against sections of  the Road Traffic Bill.

RJR News received early reports of withdrawal of service in Spanish Town and Greater Portmore.

On Monday, some taxi operators in the Corporate Area stayed off  the job, leaving many commuters stranded.

They have vowed to continue their protest today if  the authorities do not remove the worrisome provisions, particularly one which will make them liable for offences committed by the drivers of  their vehicles.

The transport operators have also decided to take their lobbying efforts against sections of the Road Traffic Bill to Parliament.

Louis Barton, President of the Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO), has told RJR News that the group will be going to Gordon House on Tuesday to deliver a letter urging lawmakers to reconsider the amendments to the Bill which is set to go to the Senate on Friday.

The Transport Authority met with JATOO on Monday and said the discussion helped to clarify the concerns and is now taking steps to alleviate them.
