Spectrum allocation a major concern for regional broadcasters

Regional broadcasters are raising concerns about the allocation of spectrum for broadcasting by their respective governments.

This issue was one of the highlights of the just concluded 46th Annual General Assembly of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) in Grenada.

The CBU stated at the end of the conference that protection is needed for broadcasters’ use of the lower frequencies of the UHF spectrum, “in light of the major lobby underway for it to be re-allocated to mobile providers.”

The broadcasters are therefore urging regional governments to either enshrine the primary allocation in national legislation, or to vote for no change, at the World Radio Communication Conference in November in Geneva, when the question comes up for discussion.
