Sports Minister shocked by Clarendon businessman's killing

Sport Minister, Olivia "Babsy" Grange, has expressed shock at the killing of Brandon Murray, a Clarendon businessman and co-founder of the Sporting Central Academy.

In a statement Monday afternoon, Miss Grange said Mr. Murray contributed to the development of football in Jamaica, first as a player and then as a football club owner.

She added that he was best known for the rehabilitation of football fields in Jamaica.

Mike Henry, Member of Parliament for Clarendon Central and Humble Lion Football Club boss, also expressed sorrow at the news, saying Mr. Murray was dedicated to the sport of football, especially at the developmental or youth levels.

Mr. Murray was fatally shot at the Mayfair Hotel on West Kings House Close in St. Andrew shortly after 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon.

The police are searching for two suspects.

Detectives suspect it was a contract killing as the gunmen did not rob Mr. Murray.
