St. Ann farmer sentenced for smuggling cocaine

A St Ann farmer who was caught trying to smuggle cocaine out of the island has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Derrick Johnson was sentenced on Wednesday when he pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Criminal Court.

He was also fined J$750,000 and will serve an additional six months ifit is not paid.

Johnson was preparing to board a flight to England last week when he was stopped and searched at Norman Manley International Airport. It was discovered that he had ingested cocaine.

Johnson was taken to a hospital where he expelled 92 pellets with more than two pounds of  cocaine.
