A man was sentenced on Thursday to seven years imprisonment at hard labour when he appeared in the St. Elizabeth Circuit Court.
Christopher Simpson, 36, of Genus in the parish, pleaded guilty on June 12 to the lesser charge of manslaughter for the death of his former girlfriend seven years ago.
Simpson managed to elude the police for more than four years before being captured in St. James in 2015.
The court heard that Simpson went to the home of his former girlfriend on May 22, 2011, and during an argument, used a knife to stab her several times.
The woman died weeks later in hospital.
