Joshua's mother, Stacy-Ann Young Gordon, and George Moodie, Councillor for the Ensom City Division in St. Catherine

A 13 year old boy drowned on Thursday in the Rio Cobre in St. Catherine.

He has been identified as Joshua Gordon, a student of St. Jago High School.

It is reported that Joshua and two other boys went swimming in the river in the Eltham Park area when he got into difficulties.

His body was retrieved by divers Friday morning.

Joshua's mother, Stacy-Ann Young Gordon, who is a nurse, told Radio Jamaica News she and her husband left him at home while they went to work. They learnt when they got home that he had gone to the river with other boys.

Joshua was Mrs Young Gordon's only child.

In the meantime, George Moodie, Councillor for the Ensom City Division in St. Catherine, has said consideration will be given to putting in safety features to discourage swimming in the river.
