St. James, Clarendon, St. Catherine North record highest number of murders

St. James, Clarendon and St. Catherine North police divisions have accounted for the highest number of murders for the period January 1 to September 23.
    
As at last Friday, September 23 the murder figure stood at 919.
 
This was 23 or 2.6 per cent more when compared to the corresponding period last year.
    
The police say the trend is consistent as more than three persons were murdered daily last year.
    
According to data compiled by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), St. James recorded 195 murders for the period under review. 
    
The data also showed that the Clarendon police division recorded 107 murders. 
    
St. Catherine North which has jurisdiction for a number of volatile communities in Spanish Town, recorded 86 murders, rounding off the top three police divisions with the highest number of murders. 
    
The Portland police division had the least number of murders. There were eight cases of homicide in Portland up to September 24. 
     
Trelawny, St. Elizabeth and St. Thomas recorded less than 20 murders.
