Several communities in St. James are again reeling following deadly attacks by gunmen.
Five persons were shot, three fatally, during incidents in Glendevon, Salt Spring and Flanker on Sunday.
One of the deceased has been identified as 21 year old Romaine Robinson alias Blacks of Rough Road, Glendevon.
Residents reported hearing explosions along Dappa Lane in Glendevon and called the police, who found Robinson’s body.
The other victim was 55 year old taxi driver Derrick Bucknor who was shot about 10:30am along the Salt Spring Main Road.
RJR News has also been informed that a woman, identified only as Sherice, was killed in Flanker. Details on that incident and the other shootings were not available at news time.
More than 300 persons have been murdered in St. James since the start of the year.
Innocent persons
Mayor of Montego Bay Homer Davis says innocent persons are being killed in the cross fire between rival gangs. He says the situation is out of control.
“What we are seeing down here is a type of “gang land” type of activity that is seen only in the movies. So they trail each other by using telephones and other means. They don’t care where they are, they execute their plan and in that process innocent people got shot and killed, children got shot and killed.”
He added that crime is taking a toll on residents in crime plagued communities.
“It reaches a point where the citizens of Montego Bay and St. James are very fearful and with Christmas season coming we might propabbly even see less people on the street and that would not be good for commerce. We might even see less people in communities,” Davis said.
