St. Thomas Municipal Corp against relocation plan for disposal site

Councillors at the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation are at odds with the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) due to the planned relocation of the Church Corner disposal site in Morant Bay.

Parish Manager Lodwick Bryan, speaking at the recent sitting of the corporation, said the NSWMA has found a possible site in Danvers Pen.

Mr. Bryan said the NSWMA has informed the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) about the property to be used as the new disposal site in an effort to ensure that due diligence is done.

However, councillors say this is a deviation from the original plan which is to remove the disposal site from the parish to Riverton City disposal site in St. Andrew.

They fear that the disposal site to be relocated in Danvers Pen will become a permanent site.
