St. Thomas PC to discuss findings of OCG's probe into projects

The St. Thomas Parish Council is now meeting to discuss the findings of  the Office of  the Contractor General (OCG) probe into the award of  millions of  dollars in contracts for construction projects.

The OCG's report, released on Tuesday called for a review of  the Council's accounting and public administration practices.

Ahead of  the meeting, Chairman of  the St. Thomas Parish Council, Ludlow Mathison, said he was unable to comment on the findings as the contracts were issued before he assumed duties.

Former Morant Bay Mayor, Hanif Brown, said he could not comment on the OCG report as he was not aware of  the findings.

Brown was Chairman of  the Parish Council when the contracts were awarded.

The OCG conducted a probe into alleged irregularities in the award of contracts to One Touch Tours and Equipment Limited.

The contracts amounted to more than J$10 million  and were for various construction projects between November 2008 and May 2009.

The company was registered by the National Contracts Commission in the category of  Transportation and Haulage, but was providing construction services.
