Still no motive for killing of two at St. James fishing beach

The police have not yet established a motive for Saturday's shooting at the Reading fishing beach in Montego Bay, St James, which left two persons dead.

Bertland Gray, 16, of Reading, and 35 year old Leon Gillings, a coconut vendor of Mount Carey in St. James, were killed. Two other teenagers were injured in the attack.

Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell, head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, told RJR News that the area is not considered a hot spot by the police and military which have been conducting daily raids in Montego Bay, following the recent flare-up of violence.

Despite the incident, ACP Powell said the police have been successful in targeting suspects in St. James, Westmoreland, and Hanover.

"We have identified quite a number of the suspects who have been plaguing the area and they are now set to face court. That work is continuing and to be intensified over the next week," he said.
