Supreme Court to get Court Administration division

As part of ongoing improvements to the court system, a Court Administration Division of the Supreme Court is to be established.
The division will be created by statute as part of a new governance framework.
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck, says his ministry is placing major emphasis in a number of areas to improve the court system.
He pointed to the abolition of preliminary enquiries, which despite initial hiccups, has resulted in cases moving at a swifter pace through the Courts.
According to the Justice Minister, the ministry will facilitate the availability of more judges through amendments to the Constitution and legislation. The Justice Minister highlighted the thrust to place the Courts in a position to administer justice efficiently.
Mr. Chuck says work is advanced to expand the adjudicatory role of Justices of the Peace, to allow the removal of the trial of less complex cases, from Parish Courts to Court of Petty Sessions.
