Deputy Superintendent Lloyd Darby, Operations Officer for the Manchester Police

A suspect has been held in connection with last week's incident in which a policeman was shot by gunmen in Spalding Square, Clarendon.

The officer was shot when the gunmen opened fire in the square after robbing a business place.

The cop was standing outside Spalding Police Station when the incident occurred.

Deputy Superintendent Lloyd Darby, Operations Officer for the Manchester Police, confirmed that a suspect is in custody and said the police are continuing investigations into a series of robberies and break-ins taking place in the parish.

DSP Darby said another man is in custody in relation to a bank robbery in Christiana, Manchester.

He has appealed to residents of Manchester to cooperate with the police to curtail crime.

"Remember you can dial 811, 311, 119. Just tell us what you know, you don't have to give your name," he urged.
