Taxi operators on strike in Morant Bay

Claudos McDowell, a taxi operator in Morant Bay

Scores of licenced taxi operators who ply the Morant Bay to Yallahs and Morant Bay to White Horses routes in St. Thomas withdrew their service Wednesday morning.

They complained about being targeted by police and losing revenues to unregistered taxi operators.

One of the operators, Claudos McDowell, says passengers are reluctant to use the Church Street Municipal Transport Centre because of the distance from the town.

However, when they do try to accommodate passengers by going into the town to do pick-ups, they are ticketed by the police and have to pay hefty fines.
