Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid is expected to present a draft of the Jamaica Teaching Council (JTC) Bill to the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) next year.
JTA President Howard Isaacs says Mr. Reid has agreed to meet with stakeholders in March to discuss the latest draft.
Under the bill, the Jamaica Teaching Council will have the authority to suspend teachers found guilty of certain offences.
This has been met with mixed reactions from members of the profession.
Addressing the Jamaica Teachers' Association's 52nd Annual Conference in August, Senator Reid said only two out of the 16 recommendations were outstanding.
