Thousands without electricity after New York suffers blackout

Thousands of people are still without electricity in parts of Brooklyn as New York deals with another blackout and intense summer weather.

Electric company Con Edison said about half of the 33,000 customers in Brooklyn had power restored Monday morning.

It said the remaining 21,500 would have electricity back by Monday afternoon.

In a statement, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo slammed the electric company and said he was deploying state police, generators and light towers to assist.

Mr. Cuomo, who ordered an investigation into the blackout in Manhattan earlier this mornth, said he will widen the probe to include the Brooklyn outage.

Con Edison blamed equipment failure for the five-hour blackout in Manhattan July 13 that affected 40 blocks from Times Square to Rockefeller Center.
