Three foreign nationals plead guilty to illegal entry in Jamaica

Three foreign nationals on Monday pleaded guilty to illegal entry when they appeared in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court.

The three fishermen, 22 year old Andy Matas and 35 year old Walter Velchas of Costa Rica, and 33 year old Edgar Josephs of Nicaragua, were ordered deported.

The court was told that the three confessed to arriving in Jamaica by boat more than a month ago and were staying at a house in the community Gazeland, St. Elizabeth.

When questioned by immigration personnel, they said they had no travel documents and could not say what was there purpose for being in Jamaica.

The two Costa Ricans, who were also charged with possession of and dealing in ganja, were freed of the charges.

The Police suspect the men were in the island as part of the drugs-for-guns trade, as over 2,000 pounds of compressed ganja was found in a nearby house.
