Three killed in motor vehicle crashes

Three persons including a six-year-old girl were killed between last Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in motor vehicle crashes in Portmore, St. Catherine.

About 6:05 Wednesday morning a route taxi with three passengers was travelling on the Hellshire Main Road to Braeton.    

The Portmore Police say preliminary investigations revealed that the driver overtook a line of  traffic.

He lost control of  the vehicle which slammed into a concrete pole at the intersection of  the Hellshire Main Road and South East Fourth Street.

The six year old girl and her mother sustained injuries.

They were pronounced dead at hospital.

The driver who  sustained minor cuts from the damaged windshield.

He is expected to be charged with manslaughter.

And the Portmore Police are investigating a hit and run incident on Passagefort Drive which left a woman dead and a man nursing serious injuries.   

About 9:15 Tuesday night, the driver of  a Hiace bus which operates on the Spanish Town to Naggo Head route crossed the median to guide a female passenger across the road.

He was hit by a Toyota Town Ace van. The vehicle then mowed down the woman.     

The driver reportedly sped away.  Both injured persons were taken to hospital where the woman was pronounced dead.

The man remains in serious condition.
