Three Nicaraguan fishermen hospitalised in Jamaica for malaria

Dr. Jacqueline Bissasor-McKenzie, Chief Medical Officer of Health
The Health Ministry has confirmed that three men aboard a Nicaraguan vessel which drifted into Jamaican waters last week have malaria.
The vessel is near Port Royal.
Dr. Jacqueline Bissasor-McKenzie, Chief Medical Officer of Health, told RJR News that 93 people were found aboard the vessel.
As is customary, she said, a medical team visited those on board the vessel and carried out tests, which confirmed three people had malaria.
Dr. Bissasor-McKenzie said the persons were taken to Kingston Public Hosital where they were isolated and treated. Two of the men have completed the treatment while one is still undergoing medical care.
A post-test evaluation will be carried out on the individuals.
