Tropical Wave affecting sections of the Caribbean

A well organized tropical wave, located about 475 miles east-southeast of Barbados, continues to produce showers and thunderstorms.

The National Hurricane Center says environmental conditions are favourable for continued development, and a tropical depression or tropical storm could form later on Tuesday.

The system, which has a 90 per cent chance of formation in the next 48 hours, is moving in a westward to west-northwestward direction at 15 to 20 miles per hour.

The National Hurricane Center says interests in the eastern and central Caribbean Sea, should monitor the progress of the disturbance, since warnings and watches could be required at any time.

Heavy rains and wind gusts to tropical storm force are expected to spread over the Windward Islands and portions of the southern Lesser Antilles, beginning Tuesday night and continuing into Wednesday.

An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance Tuesday afternoon.
