Two men died in motor vehicle crashes early Sunday in Kingston.Their identities have not yet been released.
The police report that shortly after 1a.m., a motor cyclist was killed when he collided with a car at the intersection of Lyndhurst Road and Beechwood Avenue.
On reaching the stop light at the intersection, the motorcyclist reportedly ran the red light and collided with the vehicle.He was pronounced dead at hospital.
In the other incident, shortly before 4a.m. a man was driving along Upper Elletson Road when he lost control of the vehicle.He crashed into a wall in the vicinity of Banana Lane. He died at hospital.
Meanwhile, the Highway and Traffic Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force is concerned that its message of safety is not resonating with motorists.
Deputy Superintendent in charge of administration at the Division, Gary McKenzie, says since the start of the year 143 persons have died in 130 crashes.
This represents 15 more than the corresponding period last year.
In 2014, there were 331 fatalities up from 300 collisions in the previous year.
A breakdown of the figures in the 2014 Economic and Social Survey of Jamaica shows that males accounted for 81 percent of the fatalities.
Excessive speeding was identified as the main cause of crashes.
This was followed by failure to keep left and pedestrian error.
