UC Rusal workers restive as wage negotiations with company break down

Negotiations for a new wage and fringe benefits contract for workers at UC Rusal's plants in Jamaica have collapsed.

The Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) says the workers are now restive and normality cannot be guaranteed.

It has written to the Ministry of Labour seeking its intervention.

UCASE President Vincent Morrison, says a meeting scheduled for Tuesday with the union and Rusal to continue wage talks was called off.

"We have decided not to meet because we believe that meeting with the management is gonna be an absolute waste of time...so what we've done, we've written to the Ministry of Labour advising that the workers are restive and requesting that they convene an urgent meeting between the parties, to assist the parties in resolving this wage and fringe benefits negotiations," Mr. Morrison said.
