UC Rusal, workers' union to resume wage negotiations

Amid reports of industrial unrest at its Jamaican operations, officials of UC Rusal have agreed to return to the negotiating table with the union representing the workers.

News came earlier this week that negotiations for a wage and fringe benefits contract had collapsed.

The Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) subsequently wrote to the Ministry of Labour seeking its intervention after stating that the workers were restive and normality could not be guaranteed.

UCASE President Vincent Morrison, told RJR News that the union has been invited by the company to a meeting next Wednesday, but insisted that the meeting would be a watse of time if a reasonable proposal to the workers is not made.
