UNICEF Jamaica concerned about violence against women, children

UNICEF Jamaica has said it is deeply alarmed at the recent spike in violent incidents perpetrated against children and women, that have caused serious injury and death.

The international organisation has appealed to the Government to accelerate commitments to protect children.

UNICEF said it is particularly concerned about reports of young children being victimised.

It added that these acts of brutality are deplorable and unacceptable.

The organisation noted that the National Plan of Action for an Integrated Response to Children and Violence was launched last year.

UNICEF said it stands ready to continue supporting this effort.
