UPDATE: JDF probing cause of helicopter's emergency landing

Major Basil Jarrett, Civil Military Cooperation and Media Affairs Officer for the JDF

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has said the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is “doing everything” to find out what caused a helicopter to conduct an emergency landing in Dunbeholden, St. Catherine, on Monday morning.

In a JIS News interview, the minister said he was grateful that there was no loss of life as a result of the incident.

He noted that the pilot was the sole occupant of the helicopter, a JDF Bell 206.

Major Basil Jarrett, Civil Military Cooperation and Media Affairs Officer for the JDF, said the injured pilot is in stable condition in hospital and undergoing medical evaluation.

He confirmed that the pilot was a JDF trainee at the Caribbean Military Aviation school.

He said that the necessary investigations and recovery procedures are being carried out, however, he urged residents to keep away from the site of the incident.

The public is being asked to report aircraft parts found to the JDF headquarters at Up Park Camp by calling 876-960-8776.
