UPDATE: One dead, 22 injured as car hits pedestrians in Times Square

An 18 year old woman is dead and at least 22 people injured after a speeding car plowed into pedestrians in Manhattan's bustling Times Square on Thursday morning.

Four people were critically injured but are expected to survive.

The driver of the 2009 Honda Accord - 26 year old, Richard Rojas, of the Bronx - is in custody.

New York Police Commissioner James O'Neill said Mr. Rojas has been arrested twice in New York - in 2008 and 2015 - for drunk driving.

Officials said there is no indication the incident, which unfolded just before noon, was an act of terrorism.

It is being investigated as an accident.

The vehicle reportedly jumped the curb at 7th Avenue and 45th Street near the city's popular tourist spot.
