US: Charges dropped against remaining officers in Freddie Gray case

Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby, on Wednesday, said she stands by her decision to charge six officers in connection with Freddie Gray's death. However, she felt she had no choice but to drop charges against the three remaining officers facing trial.

Three had earlier been acquitted.

Ms Mosby says the prosecutor's office stands by the medical examiner's determination that Freddie Gray's death was a homicide.

However, she said it became clear that without an independent investigatory agency and without real, substantive reforms to the current criminal justice system, the case could be tried 100 times and would still have the same result.

The State Attorney also slammed the way police handled their investigation into Freddie Gray's death. She said there were individual police officers that were witnesses to the case, yet were part of the investigative team.

Freddie Gray died after sustaining a neck injury while in police custody in April 2015.
