US Military arrive in Haiti

U.S. military personnel have arrived in  Haiti to begin storm response efforts.

Two hundred and 50 soldiers were expected to arrive yesterday and this figure is expected to increase to 350 today. 
   
Commander of  U.S. Southern Command’s Joint Task Force Matthew, Navy Rear Admiral Cedric Pringle, told Pentagon reporters via teleconference from Port-Au-Prince that there is a lot of  work to be done in Haiti.
   
The task force is working with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to begin relief efforts.
   
Pringle said relieving the suffering of  the Haitian people is critical.
                                                   
Meanwhile,GraceKennedy is to donate J$2.5 million  worth of  non-perishable food items to Haiti.
   
This is in response to an appeal by Food For the Poor Jamaica for donations.
   
Among the items being donated are crates of  porridge mixes, corned beef, sausages, mackerel, cheese, beans, juices and water products.
   
All donations will be collected by Food For the Poor which is organising shipment of  items to Haiti.
