US teen intercepted by police before committing violent act

A teenager who was reportedly en route to an Indiana Middle school in the United States to commit an act of violence was stopped after police received a tip.

Richmond Police Chief Jim Branum said the suspect and officers fired gunshots at each other at the school before he killed himself.

Chief Branum said the police and school officials were alerted Thursday morning that an armed person was heading to Dennis Intermediate School with the intention of hurting people.

He said officers and the teen fired shots near a school door before the boy went inside the building, where he later killed himself.

It was not immediately known whether the teen was wounded by officers.

No one else was injured.
