Utility companies pay out $87 million for breaches

Jamaica's utility companies paid out $87 million for service breaches during the January to March quarter this year.

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) says this represents a 117.5 per cent increase over sums paid in the October to December quarter.

Some $40 million was paid by the utility companies at that time.

The latest figures are contained in the OUR's Quarterly Performance Report.

The OUR says $57.9 million was secured for utility customers through its intervention.

The Jamaica Public Service Company paid the highest share of $57.8 million.

Payouts of $28 million and $1 million were made by the JPS and the NWC respectively, for breaches of Guaranteed Standards.
