West Kingston Compensation Committee requests more time to finish report

Carol Palmer

The West Kingston Compensation Committee has asked for more time to complete its report.

The document was expected last month.

Carol Palmer, Permanent Secretary in the Justice Ministry, told RJR News that the committee is still conducting hearings.

"The committee has been working assiduously at the various claims that have been submitted, holding hearings and making their own determinations. We are yet to be formally advised of what their final conclusions are but they have requested an extention of time to submit their report at the end of August as they contemplate some very last submissions that they received," she declared.

The committee is looking into the issue of compensation for the estate of persons who were killed during the May 2010 operation.

The committee is also looking at compensation for those who were detained or suffered loss and damage to property.
