West Kingston Enquiry - Criminals fired from a distance

The Jamaica Defence Force Battalion Commander during the May 2010 operation to apprehend Christopher "Dudus" Coke continued his testimony this morning at the West Kingston Commission of  Enquiry.

Major Garth Anderson testified that a group of  soldiers was successful in gaining control of  one of  the sectors in Tivoli Gardens about 5pm on May 24.  However, there was poor visibility. An immediate concern was that criminals were firing at the soldiers from a distance.

According to Anderson, somem men were dressed in denim similar to that worn by members of  Mobile Reserve.

Meanwhile, Attorney for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Deborah Martin, sought to determine the level of  resistance encountered during the fire fight. Anderson said it was in keeping with what intelligence suggested.

He added that the operational plan had factored in the worst case scenario in anticipation of  the confrontation.
