Westmoreland man who bit off part of policeman's ear charged

Attorney-at-law Micheal Erskine

Charges have been laid against a Westmoreland man who has been in police custody for more than two weeks, after he reportedly bit off a piece of a policeman's ear.

Adrian Creed was taken before the Westmoreland Parish Court on Tuesday to answer to a charge of wounding with intent.

Mr. Creed was detained by cops on October 7, after he allegedly refused to hand over keys to a motorcycle to police officers.

He reportedly denied having the keys to the motorcycle and a scuffle ensued.

The police say that it was during the scuffle that a piece of one of the policeman's ears was bitten off.

Mr. Creed's family staged a protest in front of the Negril police station last Friday, calling for him to be given medical treatment due to injuries he sustained.

It is not clear how he received those injuries.

Attorney-at-law Micheal Erskine said his client is now out on $150,000 bail with three sureties.

He expressed concern about what he said was the tardiness of the police in laying charges and preparing Mr. Creed's file for court.

The matter returns to court in January.
