Wolmer's dethrone St George's to win Walker Cup KO crown

Voice of Spencer Darlington describing the goals and ending of the game and also coaches Vassell Reynolds and Neville Bell

Wolmer's Boys are champions of the ISSA FLOW Walker Cup for the fifth time in their history as they beat St Georges College, the competition's most successful team 5-4 on sudden-death penalties at the Stadium East field on Wednesday. The teams entered extra time at 0-0 as they both squandered easy scoring opportunities within regular time. Wolmer's struck first in extra time before the 9 time winners leveled the contest.

The Wolmer's goalkeeper Shamar Jemison then starred in the shootout with two saves and a conversion, before Jamele Hall snatched the title for the Heroe’s Circle-based team. Winning coach Vassell Reynolds says he was confident about his team’s chances in the shootout.

“It was a tough one….we knew the long layoff would have caused us some problems towards the end with some cramps. We know once it went to the penalty shootout we would have come up trumps. We were depending on our ‘keeper and he came up big for us,” said Reynolds.

His opposite number Neville ‘Bertis’ Bell said the shooutout could have gone either way. “Very disappointed again. We give thanks that we made it to three finals…the team played very well this season but when it goes to the penalty spot, it’s a bit of a lottery,” said Bell.
