A woman who was reportedly allowed to disembark a cruise ship earlier this month in Jamaica to get medical attention has tested positive in the United States for the coronavirus.
Norwegian Cruise Line has notified passengers who sailed on Norwegian Breakaway's March 7 trip, following media enquiries.
NBC affiliate in Orlando, Florida, Wesh 2 News, said the woman reported being ill and was taken to the ship's sick bay.
The doctor on board the ship sent the woman to a hospital in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, when they docked on March 10.
The woman did not re-embark.
She was then flown to Broward Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she was diagnosed with COVID-19.
A statement from the cruise line said it had no knowledge of the guest's condition until it was made aware of it by the Centers for Disease Control.
It said it performed pre-embarkation medical screenings, which included a non-touch temperature screening as well as a pre-embarkation health questionnaire certifying the guest's health status and recent travel history.
The cruise line said it is not aware of other cases from that voyage.
Wesh 2 News said the passengers who were on the ship are now wondering why the cruise line waited four days to let them know about the positive test.
