Woman who slapped teen in the face, freed of assault charges

A shopkeeper who is seen in a video now circulating in social media, slapping a teenager across the face, has been freed of  assault.
 
The matter came up in the Trelawny Parish Court on Wednesday.
 
The police say the 53 year old woman, Yumei Pan, who was charged with Assault Occassioning Bodily Harm, was freed after no evidence was offered.
 
According to the police, the incident occurred last month at a grocery store on Main Street in Clarks Town, Trelawny.
 
The police say about 12:45 p.m., the 13 year old girl went into the shop operated by Ms Pan, picked up an item, and went to the counter to make a purchase.
 
In the video, the woman is seen accusing the teenage girl, who is in school uniform, of under-paying her by $40.
 
The shopkeeper, who has the girl collared by the blouse, then slaps her across the face while using Jamaican expletives to her.
 
According to the police, they received a report and Miss Pan was arrested and charged the same day.
