Teams from the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) are for a third day trying to restore service to thousands of customers after heavy winds disrupted electricity in several parishes.
The JPS, in a statement, said it has escalated its response to power outages in the Corporate Area and St Catherine by adding several teams from other parishes that were not as badly affected by the winds.
Kelly Tomblin, JPS President, said, in the statement, that the situation was made worse by the overgrowth of vegetation on power lines in some locations. She explained that the restoration of service has taken longer than expected in some communities as the repair teams have had to be removing trees from the lines, to prevent recurring outages.
Miss Tomblin said vegetation management will be a critical area of focus for the utility company this year.
